Trouble on Boughene Station (Part 1)

Updated: May 6

From the ship’s computer Pytor located in library data that Boughene is a large volcanic world with a corrosive atmosphere. It’s techincally a 30% fluid world, but the oceans are hot liquid ammonia, methane, and hydrocarbons. The world’s population is three million, but all live on the vast TL 13 Boughene Station which orbits Boughene.

An Imperial knight, Sir Scath Vornif, technically “rules” the Imperial functions but has little power compared to The Cabal which runs the Station or to General Products (GP), a chemical-producing mmegacorporation still headquartered on the Station. Scath does hold sway over the Scout base and the Ruby Section (the entertainment section of the Station).

The Cabal began as a group of local GP company executives who took control of the Station and applied to the Imperium three hundred years ago. The maneuver stuck, but General Products (GP) was given preference and it kept its HQ on the station even as an Imperial noble was installed (but did not really wield power).

Pytor docked smoothly at Boughene Station (second deck) and was met by Customs which was expecting a small container of weapons for Scath. Bolivar had failed to mention this residual lot and was embarrassed, apologizing several times to the skipper.

The transfer was made; Bolivar delivered his weaponry cargo to the Imperial knight's agents. He then sadly shared that he would leave STARLIT and head back. “Thank you, crew. It has been an honor.”

He transmitted his business “card” to each crewman. “I’ve rented you Station apartments for three days. They are a bit luxurious. I hope you like them. Here are the room cards. I hope to see you again some day. Be careful. We’ve made enemies.”

The crew headed out for drinks. Tip sent a message from the bar to Tilden & Company explaining his departure to help his sister and her kids . He also explained that due to the short notice he had placed an add at Boughene and sought a Gunner. He sent Jon McLane’s resume along with his explanation and apologies. Pytor gave Tip a 10kCr bonus for his part in the corsair adventure. Tip was deeply grateful as this would speed his return home, and it made him doubly sad to leave the crew.

Gradually the crew drifted off to their luxury accommodations. Pytor went to the TAS lounge only to find it was closed but requested breakfast with Sir Vornif at 0700. He then returned to STARLIT. John went to his unearned but gratefully obtained luxury accommodations…only to be shot at as he opened the door. A scuffle soon rendered the assailant unconscious and the police showed up (one of them was also a former-Marine). John answered a few questions and then the police dragged the unconscious would-be killer away.

Back on the ship, it was late and the quirky Engineer had finished building his bug scanner and had swept the bridge and lounge. Tomorrow he would scan the rest of the ship and thought he be done by noon.

Pytor slept poorly.
