1105-341 VALIANT jumped to Wildeman and INCORRIGIBLE followed, taking the longer route via Iilgan and picking up food as cargo. After skimming the inner gas giant and running tabletop drills, VALIANT landed outside the dome and took the g-carrier into the airlock.

A message offering pirate escort and system protection resulted in being met by Envoy Tel Montore. Some of the crew were wined and dined, and Councilman Andre Talick of Bluegar Realm (where the starport is located) shared information. Kalek Corporation owned the starport. The balkanized world was at peace and wealthy. Current anti-piracy patrols were funded but good patrols at a competitive price were welcome. Perhaps a good faith effort might secure a deal? Perhaps one even signed by the King of Drinax and the Council of Wildeman and VALIANT?

Liberty was welcome and the crew went ashore in port and starboard shifts until INCORRIGIBLE arrived, sold its cargo, and shared in a short break. Dr. No kept Montore busy night-skating down a mountain with flashlights wearing lightly powered grav belts. While on break Lord Agnar and Gunner "Bongo" (played by PJ) went out into the starport to talk to corporations, trading brokers, and security companies. They learned a great deal about the underbelly of Wildeman (see planet information posted with Wildeman) which resembled a modern cocktail remininscent of Casablanca during Earth's early World War II and still popular in vids starring a 3d Humphrey Bogart remix.

Dr. No investigated union formation cells and found out about Tethers and Blue Soon Members. The first is outlawed and has big goals that include percentage payments and the ability to draw goods out of shipments as a "tax." The second is looking for small goals that aim toward a career with a pension. Wages are good so neither is gaining immediate support from shipyard workers.

Lord Agnar looks for a retired former spacer and found chess player Ranga. Ranga was happy to keep track of comings and goings, cargoes, and pirates as well as Imperials and Aslans. He was quite happy to do it for 1,000CR per month and promised to exceed goals. He will be paid as Agnar enters the system and receives a report. "Don't make trouble, keep track of it," was his mandate.

Finally a Seeker Type-J named GNOME radioed for an escort. Captain Violet Strange was a quirky miner who claimed to have mined a worthy diamond cargo. The Council wanted to see what VALIANT could do and a launch was authorized.

As VALIANT closed, GNOME radioed that a pirate A2 Far Trader was chasing them. The pirate did not respond to VALIANT but evaded upon detection and dove for the planet where it lay cold and silent. But VALIANT launched its G-Carrier with special sensors and the pirates were detected. The pirate remained silent when challenged and VALIANT launched a boarding team to break in. Tools proved inadequate, but the pirates surrendered when a fusion gun was finally threatened.

Five pirates refused to join the crew of VALIANT and were cuffed and stuffed. Three offered to join, they were Nio Tooroo an electronic (comms) qualified crewman, and two were simply pirates (marines) named Tia Dabro (female) and Khan Rack (male). A prize crew was sent down and the A2 was accompanied back to Wildeman behind INCORRIGIBLE and GNOME. The A2 was sold for 10MCR and the funds were sent to Drinax, partitioned out to supporters, and used for better equipment.

The Council was delighted and pledged (in writing for the King of Drinax) 350,000CR/year for VALIANT to patrol and escort for a minmum of three months per year. They inserted a clause that this could be increased with bonuses when results were particularly good. It also allowed an increase in the rate if addtional assets (beyond just an A2) could be brought to bear. The Council would love to see the need for "Imperial protection" decreased.
