This scene began on 1106-035 (and ended on 1106-049 as the ship headed back to Wildeman with GRIEFWIND as a prize).

A suspicious Far Trader, LEAFBAGGER, emerged from behind an asteroid mid-system as VALIANT neared the end of its first two month patrol for Wildeman.  VALIANT went to GQ and depressurized.  They then directed LEAFBAGGER to heave to for boarding.  At first the ship appeared to comply.  But, once it was within firing range, it failed to turn and stop and instead powered up its three turrets for firing.

VALIANT gaoined the initiative (by a wide margin) and immediately fired a salvo of four missiles, one from each turret.  The new weaponry consisted of BMSx2 and PPMx2 (or Beam/Missile/Sand in two turrets and Pulse/Pulse/Missile in the two others).  Power stability and air scrubbers had also been repaired.

LEAFBAGGER had to immediately attempt to defend itself against the inbound missiles with its three triple turrets which mounted only one beam laser each.  It was able to shoot down two, but the other two missiles impacted.  Despite good armor and an attempted juke, LEAFBAGGER (now revealed as a reconfigurable Nishemani 400-ton Corsair) took significant damage (losing 29 HP out of 160). In exchange they were not able to get off a single shot in response.  VALIANT had not yet even closed to short range for called shots.  The fight was over without incurring a scratch in exchange for a promise not to space the pirates.

The Corsair (later identified as CAPT Blackscar’s GRIEFWIND) heaved to and was boarded without resistance.  VALIANT positioned itself well with its armed Ships Boat (manned by Tate Twitch and others) covering, and the team boarded from their GCarrier (Gunskiff) after the pirates had been mustered and claimed to have disarmed.  A quick sweep confirmed their compliance and and all were arrested and restrained.  One captive was identified as Tad Scarsdale, an executive of Standard Ore.  A large black dog named Boyo was also found, having belonged to Blackscar himself.  Treasure from Blackscar’s safe included a roughly 15MCr bag of jewels and 10MCR credit (and account information) deposited in a Theve Interspace account.

Tad had been captured on a subcontracting 100 ton Scout ship two weeks earlier as it entered the Wildeman system.  Standard Ore was hoping to expand beyond Tobia subsector, knew that Wildeman was being actively mined, and knew that megacorporations Delgado, Ling, and Stermetal (which Tad hates) were asking a large percentage and were poorly perceived by the locals.

Debrief of the Chief Mate, who had not been aboard long, indicated that Dan Johnston on Theve is their preferred fence.  He can often be found in a restaurant with blue and purple lights.  The last treasure was left on Fist in one of the giant orbiting statues.  Other treasures had likely been left in other systems.

Chief Engineer Karg Nomar was retained for service.  He is a lifelong pirate but too old for boardings and now works only on ship’s systems, sometimes at starports but often in pirate meet-ups or remote sites.  He has valuable skills.

Captain Blackscar was retained as a prisoner.  The Chief Mate and rest of the crewmembers (11 total) are to be returned to Wildeman under guard.
